Bollywood Movie Flops: 5 of Bollywood’s Biggest Box Office Fails

From Bombay Velvet to Tubelight: take a look back at the biggest box office bombs

Bollywood films bring us entertainment in the form of a full fledged package. From drama to groovy songs, from extravagant set-ups to unforgettable couture – you name it, and it’s got it all. But does all the effort, money and talent invested live up to our expectations every time? You may ponder over that. While there have been several films entering the big “100 crore” club with their sheer brilliance in terms of cast, story and direction portrayed on the big screen, there are movies which fail to leave an impact on the fans and often let the hopes of fans down. Here are 5 movies which didn’t reach up to the expectations and were flops.

BOMBAY VELVET – The movie starred millennials Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma and with its breath-taking trailers, it raised expectations for the audience. But once it hit the theatres, the film faced unexpected backlash and major monetary loss. The 100 crore budgeted film lacked pre-release hype which is very important in the current competitive environment in Bollywood. The movie failed stick to a particular genre which left the audience confused and became predictable at every scene, something that we wouldn’t expect from an Anurag Kashyap film.

FAN – Shah Rukh Khan essayed the role as and in his film, FAN. Although he portrayed one of the most memorable characters of his career, the storyline often had lose ends during scenes which didn’t succeed in keeping up with the interest of the audience.  The Indian crowd is enthralled by songs and drama, something which lacked in the movie and was one of the vital reasons this highly anticipated film flopped miserably at the box office.

JAGGA JASOOS – A movie which took more than a year to be made, Jagga Jasoos was the first of its kind ever seen in Bolllywood. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and his former girlfriend, Katrina Kaif, the movie was appreciated by the critics but was an utter disappointment for fans. A musical drama which meant to keep the audience at the edge of their seats, the 3-hour movie failed at the box office since it left a lot of cinema lovers baffled and confused with the parallel stories screenplay.

SHAANDAAR – When two powerhouse performers come together, you’re in for a treat. Unfortunately it wasn’t the same when Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor came together for the fairytale story of Shaandaar. While is wasn’t just the storyline and script that left the audience upset, it was the portrayal of the characters which lacked intensity and depth leading the film to be an unexpected flop.

TUBELIGHT – Superstar Salman Khan has set the bar high and is popularly known as the king of the 100 crore club. Well, that doesn’t come true all the time. Similar happened when Salman released his film Tubelight with his Bajrangi Bhaaijan film director, Kabir Khan. While Salman lived up to the simplicity of the character, the movie lacked intriguing dialogues and followed a similar storyline of that of Bajrangi Bhaijaan making it merely a sequel! While the film and cast didn’t excite the audience, it was a disappointing flop for all Khan lovers!
