HOT CORN TV | ‘A film about love, friendship and creation’ – Dome Karukoski talks Tolkien

We speak to the Finnish director about his biopic of the man behind Lord of the Rings

In his first English language film, Finnish filmmaker Dome Karukoski helms the biopic of Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien, starring Nicholas Hoult in the leading role. We were lucky enough to sit down with the director to discuss the project, and why he finds the subject’s formative years so fascinating. He comments on the challenges of subverting usual biopic tropes, and what question he most would’ve liked to asked the man himself. Finally we touch upon the film’s World War One sequences, and how we may well have lost other Tolkiens and creative geniuses among the millions of those who tragically died in battle.

Tolkien is released on April 3rd
