Ben Salisbury, Geoff Barrow and the sound of Alex Garland’s sci-fi horror movie

Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation is a sci-fi horror film directed by Alex Garland. The movie, starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Oscar Isaac, follows a group of military scientists into a mysterious region, The Shimmer, sealed off by the U.S. Government. Music film composer Ben Salisbury and Portishead’s Geoff Barrow have once again joined forces with the filmmakers three years after Ex Machina, his directorial debut, for which they gained two World Soundtrack Awards nominations and won 2016 Ivor Novello Award for Best Original Score. Now, the composing partners are back with a brand new soundtrack. The have composed 18 tracks using acoustic guitar, orchestra, a touch of electronics elements and a four-note motif.
